Attraction # 89 Category of Attraction: Museum & Plant Tours The "Gold Vault' was constructed in 1936 at a cost of $560,000. Made of granite, steel and concrete, its dimensions are 105 by 121 feet. The gold in the Depository is in the form of standard mint bars somewhat smaller than a building brick, each of which weighs about 27.5 pounds. The Depository is under the supervision of the US Treasury Department's Director of the Mint. Visitors to the building are not allowed inside but pictures may be taken of the building from both US 31W and Bullion Blvd. on Fort Knox.
