This residential neighborhood developed between 1870 and 1930. With its principal boom following creation of Cherokee Park after 1890. Residences are Victorian era and Revival styles representing works of local architects. One of the area's most interesting features is the bronze statue of Gen. John B. Castleman and his horse Carolina created in 1912 by New York sculptor R.Hinton Perry.
